Our Congregation
Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church, situated in Statesville, NC, has stood since 1878 as a congregation committed to the Lord Jesus Christ. We are a small assembly of believers who gather not to court the favor of men, but to honor God according to His word. Those earnestly seeking truth as revealed in Scripture may find our Sunday worship a place of solemn reflection. Visitors are received with due respect, and we welcome you to visit with us!
Our Worship
We adhere strictly to the New Testament pattern of worship, as practiced by the free and ancient church:
- A capella singing of hymns, free from instrumental adornment.
- Public prayers offered by our brethren.
- Preaching of God’s Word in the King James Version, the chief part of our service, declaring His sovereign purpose.
- Families worship as one, with children present as Scripture permits (Mark 10:14), and we hold to this simplicity as a testimony of obedience (Acts 2:42).
- Upon conclusion, we end our worship in peace, offering one another the right hand of fellowship. A fellowship meal follows the service.
Our ways are plain, unembellished by modern contrivances, and suited to those saints who value edification over display.
Our Doctrine
We hold to the truth of salvation by God’s sovereign grace, believing that the Lord, before the foundation of the world, elected a definite number unto eternal life through Christ’s finished work (Ephesians 1:4). This salvation is not of man’s will or effort, but of God’s unchanging decree (John 1:13), securing redemption for His chosen from every kindred (Revelation 7:9). Faith and obedience are not the cause, but the evidence of this grace (Galatians 5:22). We proclaim this message not to the allure of the masses, but to declare what God has done. Visiting Us
If you are drawn to examine these things for yourself, we meet 1st, 3rd, and 4th Sundays at 10:30 AM, led by Elder Mitch Broadway. Please find previous sermons here. Our worship is for those who sense a call to hear the word of truth (John 4:24). Directions are available below. We make no boast of perfection, yet trust that God preserves His doctrine among us for His own glory.
